Thanet Earth

As featured on Countryfile today.
THANETEARTH is a huge agricultural project which is aimed at supplying a huge amount of salad crops all year round. It is a group of huge greenhouses, currently under construction in Kent. It is set to provide 500 jobs for the area. The farming type is HYDROPONICS: plants are grown in nutrient filled water tubes.
Farming seems to be on the up finally due to the rising cost of food...
The website is opening soon, and you can get a flavour for the project in THIS KENT TV VIDEO.
The place has certain benefits:
Thanet has temperate climate, has national grid line running across the site. It will lalso use biological pest-control methods.
Also a good review in "The Observer" for a book called CHINESE WHISPERS, which looks at the stories behind the use of Chinese labour in Britain.
